Why did God ask Eve "who told you to eat the forbidden fruit" if God knows everything?

I believe God wanted to see if she would be truthful, or tell a lie. Who knows what might had happen if she had told the truth.

God questioning Eve was a test whether or not Eve would continue to sin. Whenever one commits a sin today, they would probably cover it up with a lie, as I believe that it is the most common response when someone is questioned about their wrongdoings. 

Since Eve was being questioned of her sin, she decided to lie so that she can most likely escape punishment, but she also forgot that God was Omniscient, which means God already knew the answer, making her excuses invalid.

To simplify, it was a test.
