Hebrew 9:27 says, "it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" Greek: apokeimai (G606), be laid up in store; be in reserve. Translated appoint (Heb. 9:27); be laid up (Lk. 19:20; Col. 1:5; 2Tim. 4:8). It is appointed or laid up by divine decree: "Dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return" (Gen. 3:19). This law of death will hold firm for all men until the time of the rapture, when the living who are to be translated will not see death (1Cor. 15:51-58 1Th. 4:13-16 Php. 3:21). All who live at the end of the Millennium and who do not rebel against God will be permitted to live on the new earth forever without dying. Death will be destroyed and all things will be restored as they were before Adam sinned (Rev. 20:7-10; 21:1-22 Rev 5; 1Cor. 15:24-28). After death is the judgment, not a second chance to live on earth and be saved. Death ends all probation for the one who dies. If he is righteous at death, his soul and spirit go to heaven awaiting the resurrection of the body (2Cor. 5:8; Php. 1:21-24 Heb. 12:23; Rev. 6:9-11). If he is wicked at death his soul and spirit go to hell to await the resurrection of his body (Lk. 16:19-31 Isa. 14:9; Rev. 20:11-15). There is no such thing as purgatory or a second chance to be on probation in the Millennium or any other time. Neither is there a reincarnation or a transmigration from body to body.
People die because of what is called the "original sin"-the disobedience of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. God had warned the first couple that transgressing His law would result in their deat...

Here are some additional scriptures that can bring insight along with Michael Houdmans; Gen 6:3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not put up with humans for such a long time, for they are only mortal flesh. In the future, they will live no more than 120 years." NLT Heb 9:27 And inasmuch as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this (cometh) judgment; ASV As we can see this pertains to the natural person, the flesh, the humanity, our body, soul (mind will and emotions) On the other side like Michael said, there is the spiritual side, where will your spirit man go when your flesh dies? Only a person who is born again will go to heaven, otherwise there is eternal suffering for those who do not receive the free gift of life that Jesus provided for us on the cross, but that is another thread. I hope this helps
Death is an act of mercy by the Creator. Would you want to live forever on this wicked planet? Death is most unnatural. We want to live forever. We mourn the death of loved ones and dread our own death. This is because we were created to be immortal. Because of sin, however, we were destined to live a short while in this body on this fallen planet to experience the consequences of our rebellion to the Creator's most holy law of love. Those of us who repent of following the law of selfishness and rebellion and trust and obey God into his law of love will be saved and will live forever. The rest will not, since sin is ultimately incompatible with (eternal) life. It is self-destructive. You can run the "moral tic tac toe" game in your head and see that eternal life and happiness can only be possible when all the members live out the Golden Rule.
The Bible’s answer to why people die: It’s natural to wonder why people die, especially when we lose someone close to us. The Bible says: “The sting producing death is sin.”—1 Corinthians 15:56. Why do all people sin and die? The first humans, Adam and Eve, lost their lives because they sinned against God. (Genesis 3:17-19) Death was the only possible outcome of their rebellion against God, for with him is “the source of life.”—Psalm 36:9; Genesis 2:17. Adam passed on the defect of sin to all his descendants. The Bible says: “Through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned.” (Romans 5:12) All people die because they all sin.—Romans 3:23. “Through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and so death spread to all men.”—ROMANS 5:12. God created our original parents, Adam and Eve, with perfect minds and bodies. He also gave them a paradise home on Earth—called the Garden of Eden. He told them that they could eat from all the trees in the garden, except for one. However, Adam and Eve chose to eat some of the fruit from that tree, and that was a sin. (Genesis 2:15-17; 3:1-19) After their disobedience, God expelled the couple from the garden and life became hard for them. In time, they had children, and life was hard for them too. They all grew old and died. (Genesis 3:23; 5:5) We get sick, grow old, and die because we come from that original family. Why do humans die? To find the answer, we must consider what happened when there was only one man and one woman on Earth. The Bible explains: “Jehovah God made to grow out of the ground every tree that was pleasing to look at and good for food.” (Genesis 2:9) However, there was one restriction. Jehovah told Adam: “From every tree of the garden you may eat to satisfaction. But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad, you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will certainly die.” (Genesis 2:16, 17) Sadly, the first human couple chose to disobey God. Adam and Eve could have been alive today, but they died because they chose to disobey God and thus sinned. The reason we die is that Adam’s sinful condition, as well as death, was passed on to all of his descendants. (Romans 5:12.) And this is why we all die today: When Adam and Eve sinned, they became imperfect, and they thus passed on imperfection to all of their descendants. Regarding Adam, the Bible says: Romans 2:12 - That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned. Thus, all humans have been born “in sin,” meaning that we are born imperfect and inclined toward error.—Psalm 51:5; Because of inherited sin or imperfection, we get sick, grow old, and die. (Romans 6:23)
