What did Jesus mean by coming to bring a sword in Matthew 10:34-36?

Matthew 10:34 - 36

ESV - 34 Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

Matthew 10:34-36 describes Jesus telling the disciples that He came not to bring peace to the world, but a sword. Jesus' sword was never a literal one. In fact, when Peter took up a sword to defend...

The sword is the word of God. It comes to people who don't know God and the people who do, and pierces their heart. I go to a house meeting and sometimes things are said that I know are for me, even though the person saying it doesn't know what I've done or need to do. And it goes right to my heart! It's like that sharp sword. Some people want to hear it, and others don't. Itt divides and separates not only the sin in our hearts but also the people who do and don't want God.

In revelation 2.16 Jesus said "Repent or else I will come unto you quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth." This is the word of God that we cannot fight against because it shows us the sin in our hearts.

My short and on point answer I submit: Jesus Christ is The Very Word of God; and, He is the Sword of Righteousness! He is The Alpha and The Omega! He is the purity of the opposite of evil! He came to bring ETERNAL SALVATION to this dying and sinful world by becoming our Savior by His sacrifice at Calvary a little over 2000 years ago!

The WORD--"The Sword"-- cuts to the very heart of man's worldly mind and attitudes by His Divine Truth because it uncovers deceit, corruption, lies and all evil; therefore all sin that can be conjured up in his mind and spirit! And, this "cutting" cuts open or reveals Truth in family relationships and any/all relationships that might be at odds with anyone whom becomes a child of God! Jesus tells us that we will be at odds with anyone that is "OF this world"! This happens alot inside families, not just with any regular neighbor!

The necessity and purpose of His sacrifice is the very epitome of Eternal Grace and incomprehensible Love expressed in and on that Cross!

"Praise God that He provided a Savior! And, His name is JESUS CHRIST"! --Andy--
