No, not really. Cool thing about marriage is that it is the first institute established by God, even prior to the law. We get the idea from Scripture that there is two parts to the establishment of the marriage covenant: 1) A public ceremony, and 2) sex.

As for the actual ceremony, I don't think there is any right or wrong way to do it. My cousin and his wife eloped and had Elvis marry them in Vegas. Their ceremony was just as valid in God's eyes as my other cousins who spent a bajillion dollars in the Duke chapel.

There is no single prescribed ritual for marriage in the bible. My belief is that a recognized marriage is according to the customs of your people or the laws of your country. In some countries, a dowry is paid to the husband's family as in India. In Africa and the Middle East a bride price is paid by the groom's parents to her family, like how Rebecca, Rachel Leah etc. Were married in the bible. Some have white weddings and exchange rings; some simply go to court or like someone said, some get Elvis to marry them in Vegas.

In recent years though in Christian culture, it has become the norm for a minister to seal the vows between a couple in church. But I believe the most important thing is to love, cherish and respect one another whatever method you choose.
