Other than that they both involve water, there is no connection. They occurred at different time periods, for different purposes, under different circumstances. 

It definitely was a way for God to showcase his power and complete control over nature. He also did this by calming the storm in the New Testament. While there is no direct connection between the two events, they do both serve as a reminder of the absolute omnipotence of God.
