To love Jesus it's not enough just to say, " I Love the Lord with all my heart and with all my soul and with all my mind." Matt 22:37. When Jesus answered the question posed to him, he was quoting the OT Deut 6:5.

Later in the book of John, Jesus begins to clarify this. He says, If you love me, you will keep my commandments" (John 14:15)

So we have to keep "HIS" commandments. Many will naturally assume that he is speaking of the Ten Commandments. I don't believe he is,
as we know Christians are not under the Law, but under Grace.

Jesus also says, Jhn 13:34 NLT - So now I am giving you a NEW commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.

Obeying that commandment, together with of course "believing" in him, is all that is necessary to obey the Lord.

1John 3:23 NLT - And this is his commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us.

1 John 4:20 tells us that if we don't love others we CAN'T love the Lord.

So then how are we to love others? The Lord tells us that actions speak louder than words.

In the parable of the "Sheep and the Goats" Matt 25:31-46, the King says that "...when HE was hungry, thirsty and naked" the Sheep fed and clothe him.

But although they never did see him in those conditions, HE actually suffers WHENEVER his brethren go through any adversity. And when we "love" those that suffer by actually helping them, we are ACTUALLY loving the Lord!

That is what is meant by "loving" the Lord. That is how we Love the Lord by our love being expressed by our actions of charity towards our brethren!

Mat 25:40 NIV - "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for ME.'

James also said as much, Jas 2:17 NIV - In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

And Paul said the same thing, Gal 5:6 NLT - For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in LOVE.

1Pe 1:22 NIV - Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.

1Jo 2:5 NIV - But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him:

Praise God!

When you really love Jesus, you desire to obey him. Those that love me obey me. John14:23

Will you be perfect in your obedience? No! But you will strive to be perfect and repent when you fail.

Our Lord is faithful and just to forgive us of all that we regret doing that is wrong. 1st. John 1:9 But His grace is never a license to sin. Romans 6:1

When you truly love Him you will love his word and you will have a strong desire to praise and worship him at every opportunity. The word is Jesus and Jesus is the word. John chapter 1

Your love affair with our Lord truly grows just like our love grows for our own children or wife that do not bring upon us shame.

We never stop loving our disobedient children but we may cut them off or always be grieved by their lawlessness. But we except them back whole heartedly when they turn an about face.

When you truly love the Lord your God. You will love him more than a new born child or grandchild, your wife and your material possessions.

Your relationship with Him becomes foremost above every thing else. You become aware that the temporary (this life) is less important than the eternal life to come.

This life is but a vapor or smoke James 4:14 so put the Lord first in all your plans and this life shall take care of its self because the steps of a righteous man or woman are ordered of the Lord. Psalms 37:23
