Nimrod was a godless individual who is believed to have ruled over Babel which later became Babylon. He was also progenitor of the Philistines. I would not name a child Nimrod! Read Genesis 10.

In addition to the previous answer, the name Nimrod in American english has become a metaphor for idiot or stupid, as many saw the biblical Nimrod, and has been that way for many many years. Someone in school will tease your son over that name. There are many other wonderful biblical names to choose from. Joshua (strong or Leader) etc.
