The Bible says he was 969 years old when he died, and that he died in the year of the flood. We don't know if he drowned in the flood, or whether he died by other causes. Only Noah, his 3 sons, and their wives were saved from the flood. The father of Noah, Lamech had died earlier before his grandfather Methuselah. His great grandfather Enoch was taken from the earth. He and Elijah were the only two people that never experienced death while living on the earth.

Thanks
Phillip M. Paul

Methuselah lived one hundred and eighty-seven years, and begot Lamech. After he begot Lamech, Methuselah lived seven hundred and eighty-two years, and had sons and daughters. So all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years; and he died. (Genesis 5:25-27 NKJV)

That means he died in the flood of Noah's time.

He was the man who outlived all human beings at 969 years old. The oldest man in the Bible could not have been more than 369 years old when his grandson Noah was born. Noah's grandpa, Methuselah, outlived Noah (950 years) by 19 years and Adam (930 years) by 39 years.
