So it works on this wise, Die to yourself, get alone and wait for God to come to you. 

'Repent and believe the gospel'

The good news is about exactly this. Man has been cast out of the garden, the Holy presence of God, due to his sin. God, in His infinite mercy and love, according to His own great name, sends His Son to bear our shame and transgression. The Holy One, was crushed for our iniquity, and by His grace, He calls those He wills back to Himself. This is the glorious result of the gospel, and our blessed hope, restoration to the Living God, the One and only true God. 

God promises to 'dwell among His people' and 'be their God, and they will be His children'. Jesus promises, 'if I go away, I will come again to you'. And so it is written 'Behold the Lord God will come... His reward is with Him and His work before Him'. 

The Father speaks through Joel 'in that day I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh'. Peter confirms this to be the promise Jesus would send to them. Jesus told the desciples, 'Go and tarry at Jerusalem, until you be endued with power from on high.' This is the great mystery, Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Col 1:27)

Christ is the radiant, shining shekinah glory of God Almighty. Psalm 80:1, Ezekiel 1:26-28, Hebrews 1:3, Revelation 21:23, and He promised to come to us, and send us His Spirit. 

We must repent. We must not only go to the cross, we must get on the cross. The gospel call is 'repent and believe'. For 'to me to live is Christ and to die is gain'. So Christian, die, that you might live. Die to self, get on your knees and declare and magnify your weakness, your insufficiency, your sin and iniquity, your utter lack and inability, that the power of Christ might rest upon you. For He says, 'my strength is made perfect in weakness' and Paul understands it this way, 'I rather boast in my infirmities that the power of Christ may rest upon me.' This is our blessed calling, for it is written 'For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake'. Link this with Matthew 5:10-12. Notice the context following. Remember what comes after His command to the disciples to go and wait for the promise of the Father, His Holy Spirit, 'and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.'

There is no secret not made manifest. If you want to see this in action, read the book of Acts. Disciple after disciple goes to the hard places, they stand in the breach and are persecuted, reviled and mocked. They are beaten, stoned and imprisoned. And notice their reaction, they 'rejoiced exceedingly' having been counted worthy to 'suffer for His sake'. And behold, they all did mighty miracles and God was magnified, not them.

You must die. 'Self' must die. You must stand in the breach, though this world will mock you and tear down the 'earthly man', they will harass and try to embarrass. And they will slay the earthly man. Many will think you to be a fool. ABut rejoice. For if you be united to Christ, if you suffer with Him, you shall also be raised with Him. 

Notice what it says of Jesus in Hebrews 12, 'who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame'. Know the joy set before you Christian, God's Holy presence, the Holy Ghost, through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the Holy One, to the glory of God the Father, and go to your cross and get on it. Die, get alone and pray for God to come.

Yet a little while and He will come, and will not tarry. I rest on one word:

'and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple' - Malachi 3:1

Even so come, Lord Jesus.
