Hosea once wrote: " My people perish for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6) and both second Timothy and Titus, in setting up the offices of bishops/overseers and elders, clearly speak of the importance of teaching the members of the congregation. In society today, young folks enter into marriage with little understanding of how to work together, while our social media provides unhealthy models in virtually every aspect of relationships. Paul warned the elders at Ephesus: "Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood" (Acts 20:28). To Titus he wrote: An elder must hold "fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict" (Titus 1:9); and later in the same text: "The older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanders, not given to much wine, teachers of good things -- that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed" (Titus 2:3-5). Peter wrote: "The elders who are among you I exhort... Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by constraint but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away. Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for 'God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble'" (1 Peter 5:1-5).
The bible says 'Marriage is honorable' but we see many marriages today which are not honorable. Divorce is also on the increase and many lives are without form because the marriage institution has been destroyed. With these few reasons I think it is necessary to teach marriage in Churhes.
