Why is it so hard for Christians to accept even the most difficult passages when the entire Bible is accepted as God's word?

The vast majority don't follow Paul's teaching from 2 Timothy 2:15 "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." So we stumble blindly, finding the Word difficult when if you know what was written to who, for what purpose, and in which time, there is VERY little that is difficult to understand. Get away from what your denomination may teach or what you may hold and learn how to follow Paul. I did and it has changed my life and my walk into one of joy and peace in God's promises.

Mostly because I am human. Also, I believe I am trying to understand God's reason. I search scripture for context, I seek out counsel from teachers who are able to help me understand based on historical and linguistic fact. I will not be able to accept what I read if the Holy Spirit is not allowed to have free reign in my heart, mind and spirit at all times. I believe in the revealed grace and will of God in scripture.

All of these answers are great! A large part of me believes that strong cultures in America have had a great influence on what is accepted from scripture and what is not. I am all for capitalism. I am all for starting with nothing and working hard for every possession. I think we get into trouble when we keep this strong mentality concerning God's word. I heard a pastor once say that "Grace means that God has free will". This is difficult for those that work hard their entire lives for everything that they own.

Isaiah 29:13 These people worship me with their lips but their hearts are far from me. The matter is that simple. It is all lip service without actual belief. We can also add to this: Judges 17:6 In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes. Judges 21:25 In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes. Two other versed, 18:1 and 19:1 state there was no king in Israel and then goes into some of the problems that arose out of that situation. The people never accepted God as their king, and even the church today is guilty of this sin. I have had several tell me that we are not in a theocracy and never again will be. These are church people. Lip service is given to Jesus (God) being king, but we refuse to accept God as our king, just as Israel did, and we refuse to follow his law in any way, shape or form. In other words, most of us are not even believers; it is not that many of us are immature believers with a long way to go to have the heart of God; it is that we do not believe at all, but we give the lip service to try to fool any who will listen to our claims. This was why Israel and Judah were cast out of the land, and we are not doing any better.

We don't like change, especially change that requires discipline. The word says if any man be in Christ he is a new creature; old things are passed away and behold, all things have become new. It is the new part that is hard for most of us. We have to be willing to fully surrender to God for his will to manifest in our lives.
