Honouring parents began from Noah's days. Herewe find that after Noah got drunk and exposed his nakedness his two sons Shem and Japheth went backwards and covered his nakedness as we read in Genesis 9:23. So we are not supposed to publicly shame our parents. Then we see Isaac obediently submitting to Abraham and allowed himself to put on the altar. Again we notice Jacob obeying his parents and taking a risky journey to his uncle's place to get a bride for himself as we read in Genesis 28:1-5&11. Esau and Jacob came together to bury their father Isaac as we read in Genesis35:29. Joseph took care of Jacob in his old age in Egypt and obeyed his father Jacob by arranging a stately burial for him as we read in Genesis47:29&30 read with the whole chapter of Genesis 50.

We honor our parents when we obey them, take care of them in their old age as Joseph did. We also honor them when we are ready to be chastened by them in the light of God's Word as we read in Hebrews12:9&11. Even king Solomon was instructed by his parents as he himself testifys in Proverbs4:1-4. King Lemuel was also taught by his mother as we read in Prverbs31:1. We are exhorted in Proverbs 23:22 to listen to our fathers and not to despise our mothers when they are old. By not robbing our parents also we honour them as we read in Proverbs 28:24:.

There are many examples in the Bible which teach us how to honor our parents. Finally I would like to say that the moment in prodigal son mentioned in Luke chapter 15 realized his mistake and wanted to be reconciled with his father, what grand forgiveness and restoration he received! How much more grand reception shall we not receive when we come to our Heavenly Father to be reconfiled with Him through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let us first honor Him by accepting Jesus Christ as our saviour and Lord and then all other things will follow. Amen

Honouring parents is attached with attendant benefit, any one that chooses to live long must recognise that part of the human responsibilities, among others, is to honour our parents in other for us to fulfil our days on earth.

Honouring connotes respect, esteem and admiration of our parents whether they are less knowledgeable, financial or spiritual as we are. We owe them a duty of care, visit and should proactively be meeting their needs promptly, even before they ask for such. This is very necessary for us in other to provoke their blessings as supported by the Bible: Genesis 49 vs 22 to 28, proverb 1 vs 8 to 9 and Ecclesistic 3 vs 9.

I strongly encouraged children to strive to bless their biological parents ad much as they can and by extension their spiritual parents, no matter how little, on monthly basis. We would not be disappointed for doing so, but would rather be obeying God's commandment and also incurring blessings for your self in ground style.
