Romans 4:1-8 What shall we say then, that Abraham, our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? For if Abraham were justified by the works, he hath something of which to glory, (before men) but not before God.. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

verse 5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David describeth the blessedness of the man unto whom God imputed righteousness apart from works.
Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

The man that tries to justify himself by living under the lordship of Christ, only justifies himself before men, but not before God.

James 2:21 is referring back to Abraham who was justified by faith. He was justified before men by works, but not before God. Paul said we are justified by faith, without works, lest any man should boast. 

We can only be saved by faith in what Jesus did for us. It is His commitment to us, not our commitment to Him. Our commitment to Him can not save us, it is only His commitment to us that can save us.

We can not be justified by anything we do or don't do but only by faith in Christ alone. Jesus is our only savior. We can not save ourselves by living under the Lordship of Christ.

We are saved by His life, death, and resurrection. Not by what we do or do not do. We are to seek His righteousness by faith, and not to trust in our own righteousness by living under the lordship of Christ.

He did not come to make us righteous, but to give us His righteousness by faith. If we could live under the Lordship of Christ, we make His righteousness of no effect. We in effect have made the grace of God of no grace at all. We have perverted the grace of God to save us.

If all sin was not paid for at the cross, then no one could be saved. Salvation can only be received as a free gift. Otherwise we can glory in our own flesh.

Should we go off and live in sin then? God forbid that we should walk anymore in it. But when we do grace abounds. We are not to use grace as a license to sin, but we will never become so good that we do not need the grace of God. To not trust in Gods grace for the forgiveness of all sin is unbelief. We can not earn heaven. 

Jesus paid an a terrible price for us to be saved. If we reject His grace, we can not be saved. To say His grace is not good enough to save sinners, is to say what He did for us is of no effect. We are all sinners and come short of the glory of God.
