To simplify Christian theology down to its simplest terms, we have God's word, Romans 3:23: All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Not just some, but all.

No sin can enter heaven. Not one. We have to be absolutely perfect to go to heaven. But no one is. One sin would send us to hell forever to pay for that one sin.

But God sent His own Son to pay for the sins of the whole world, and the only requirement for salvation is to believe he did it for us. So when we believe on Jesus as the only way of salvation plus nothing, we have eternal life Romans 3:21-30;. We are declared righteous by God and He will not impute sin to our account. Romans 4:6-8.

Salvation is totally a free gift. If we had to do anything to be saved, then we would have something to boast in that saved us. But nothing we can do can save us. Only what He did for us. No one ever saved themselves. We can only be saved by what He did for us when He paid our sin debt in full, and we can no longer be condemned. John 3:18

There are hundreds of verses that tell us how we know we have eternal life because of what He did for us. Probably the simplest most well known verse in the bible is John 3:16. And everyone that believes it is saved. Jesus can not lie. John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that BELEIVETH ON ME, HATH ETERNAL LIFE.

Since It is eternal, how long does it last? Forever. John 6:40 And this is the will of Him who sent me, that everyone, (anybody) that seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have eternal life and I will raise him up on the last day.

Can anyone be saved? Yes. First John 2:2 And He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but for the sins of the whole world. John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me, shall come to me, and ALL that come to me I will in no wise cast out.

So, if you have ever believed that He died for all your sins, past, present, and future, you have eternal life and can not go to hell because you have no sins to pay for. Jesus paid for them all.

When we believe the gospel, that Jesus died for our sins, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise and can never be lost. Ephesians 1:13. Hebrews 13:5 He will never leave us or forsake us. John 10:28-29 No one can pluck us from His hand.

Second Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless, the foundation of God is sure, having this seal, (the Holy Spirit) the Lord knoweth them that are His.
