Here is a warning that was given by John the baptist to the leaders of Israel in Matthew 3: 9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say to you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham. Verse 9 is all the more because Jesus Christ Himself did not have any kind words for them either. In John 8:33 they actually quoted the very thing John had warned them against unto Jesus when He told them that they shall know the truth and the truth shall set them free. In the words of Jesus Christ Himself, John 8:32, "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free". John 8:33 They answered him, We be Abraham' seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how say you, You shall be made free, John 8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and stayed not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it". Apart from 'get behind me Satan', verse 44 of John 8 is the next most stinging words ever uttered by Jesus. The last time I checked, Jesus Christ and the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are one. And I wonder why Jesus, being a Jew, would weep for the city of Jerusalem if there was a second chance for them. Christ also told the Jews in Matthew that many will come from the east and the west and will sit with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out. He also told them plainly in Matthew 21: Therefore say I to you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. Paul in the book of Acts confirms that indeed the kingdom has been given to another nation. Acts 13:45-47 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spoke against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing you put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, see, we turn to the Gentiles. For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set you to be a light of the Gentiles, that you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.

It is true that God never changes, but how He deals with people does change. In the old testament a saint could lose the Holy Spirit through sin. But in the new testament, the Spirit can never leave us. Hebrews 13:5. We are not saved the same way those were saved before Christ came. And we are not saved the same way the tribulation saints will be saved. We are saved by grace, through faith, without works. Salvation for us under grace is a free gift from God that we did nothing for. Romans 4:5. We are saved and given the Holy Spirit who seals us unto the day of redemption when we believe the gospel. First Corinthians 15:1-4. Born again. We all still sin, but our sins have all been paid for. Under grace, sin can no longer be imputed to our account, and we have been give the righteousness of God through the Holy Spirit. John 3:18 We can never be condemned again. The church is a completely different thing than Israel. We were not given the law. That is why we do not worship on the Sabbath. We are not under the law, but under grace. We do not tithe. We give out of the goodness of our heart. Not as under the law, but under grace. We are saved the same way Abraham was. Not the nation of Israel. Abraham was saved 400 years before the law was given. The law was given to show us we are sinners to bring us to Christ for salvation by grace. Those who try to save themselves by keeping the law are not saved. Only those who have trusted Jesus are saved without the law. Romans 3:28,

Replacement Theology is a derogatory term for the belief that God's people are characterised by faith alone and it has always been that way in both the Old Testament and New Testament time. Some believe that God's people are the physical race of the Jews and they are all saved because they are Jews. But the Bible makes it clear that it is only the people of faith who are saved. (Rom 9:8) Only the faithful within Israel are God's people. There is no special relation with God simply by being decended from Abraham. (Rom 9:7) It has never been that way. If any of Israel are to be saved it is not because of their race but because of their faith. (Rom 11:23) They have to believe in Jesus just like any other person. They will not be saved simply by being Jews. So 'Replacement Theology' is mis-named, for nothing is replaced. The church does not replace Israel, the people of faith have not replaced the people of Israel, those of the spirit have not replace those of the letter. (Rom 9:32) It is only the faithful who are the people of God and it always has been that way. Salvation by faith has never been replaced. Regards, Philip

I prefer to call it "fulfillment theology," in that the Old Covenant is fulfilled in Christ, and the New Covenant is the "new way." Christians are now "... Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise. " (Gal. 3:29 ESV) This in no way minimizes Israel's role in God's plan nor diminishes Jews today. I believe God's plan was that Christianity would "replace" Judaism as the One Way, but since some Jews rejected Christ as Messiah, they continued with their own faith. Yes, Gentiles are "grafted in," but that speaks to the fact that the special relationship God had with Israel was/is extended to non-Jews. Followers of Christ are His chosen people.
