In order to understand absolute or universal truth, we must begin by defining truth. Truth, according to the dictionary, is "conformity to fact or actuality; a statement proven to be or accepted as...

Yes!

I'm fact, the answer to this question is easily observable from the book of creation, and backed by scripture.

One really good example is mathematics. Physical laws, such as were created at the beginning, are underpinned by mathematical truth. For example, it does not matter what one believes about Gravity, if you walk off a building you will fall back to the ground.

This is a good example of absolute truth, regardless of individual beliefs. Further, note that this also, this absolute truth, is invisible, yet all believe because they can 'see' the outcome of this law working, that is gravity.

But in regards to the truth we claim, our Lord states plainly: 'Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.' - John 3:3

It is the Spirit that leads into all truth (John 16:13). Revealing that which Jesus has spoken (John 14:26) according to the will of the Father (John 5:30), to reprove the world concerning sin, and righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8-11).

But we know and believe, that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, and by the same, are kept and reserved until the great and glorious day of the Lord, when God will judge the living and the dead by His Word, and He will dwell among us, and be our God and we will be His children. So press on and in, toward the great day of our Lord, and ground yourself on Christ and His finished work, for this declares absolute truth louder and more clearly than any event, or anything in creation, from the foundation of the world to forever more. There is no higher revelation of absolute truth than the proclaimed 'name of God.'

Christ is risen! Holy Spirit come! Immanuel!

Logic dictates that there IS absolute truth. Suppose I say, "There is NO absolute truth." By saying this, I am stating that it is an absolute truth that there is no absolute truth and my assertion collapses on itself. Therefore, there MUST be absolute truth.

Logic would then make us ask that if absolute truth exists, where or who does it come from? Who gets to decide what absolute truth is? Man can only state as fact that which we know as a certainty. Since we DON'T know everything, that makes man a bad choice as the decider of truth. Man learns a little more and then his truth changes. He learns a little more, his truth changes again, ad nauseum.

So if absolute truth exists and man is not the source, what is the source? Logically, absolute truth MUST come from a source that knows absolutely everything about absolutely everything; past, present, and future. This source must exist outside of man's understanding of space and time in order for it to know the future of everything.

Does such a source exist? To me, that sounds a lot like the God of the Bible. Genesis states that God spoke everything into existence. He existed before everything existed. It makes sense to me to trust in the One who created everything as the Source for absolute truth and not look to man.

Andy 3 photo Andy Mangus I am a Christian since October 1979 & devoted truth seeker.
My short answer is Yes! GOD'S HOLY WORD! "His Word is TRUTH!"(Psalms 119) This chapter in Psalms is a detailed attitude based outline in how to live, pursue and be one whom seeks to know God intimately and be more like Jesus Christ our Lord every day! "In the beginning was the WORD and the WORD was with God and the WORD was God".(John 1:1)

"And His name is Jesus Christ! He will guide us into all TRUTH, for He is the very WORD of GOD!"

Yes, I want my paycheck, for the hours I worked. That's an implacable absolute that everyone acknowledges immediately. When explaining any ideology or concept, work a dollar sign into it and understanding expands exponentially.

I've found the self contradicting angle of someone claiming that absolutely there is nothing absolute to be effective. The result is that they quickly end the conversation, realizing their entire philosophical basis on which everything was predicated just collapsed, or they simply ignore the issue and carry on.

But the purpose when talking to people about Christ and Christianity is not to win an argument. It's to expose them to the light of the gospel. Be faithful in the scriptures and stay prayed up, without prayer you will get clobbered. Oh, find a confidante to speak to about this activity because very few believers are talking about the Lord that they love. An odd curiosity. What bride never talks about her groom?
