When it comes to the Iraq war, there is a lot of misinformation and propaganda out there which makes it difficult to give a definitive answer. 

But first let’s look at the reasons why USA went to war in Iraq: 
1. We were told that Saddam Hussein was behind the terrorist attach of 9/11/2001. 

That was not true; Saddam did not have any involvement with the planning, execution or financing of the terrorist attack. Nineteen of the 20 terrorists that executed the 9/11 attack were from Arabia Saudi, and members Al- Qaeda, a terrorist organisation led by Osama bin Laden based in Afghanistan.

2. We were also told that Saddam was in process of reconstituting his nuclear ambitions, that he was acquiring nuclear material and equipment to build nuclear weapons directed at USA. That he had all sorts of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) that he was ready to provide to terrorists who will do harm to homeland. 

All that was false. Saddam, although he might have fantasized about such endeavors, he did not have the capacity or resources to accomplish such plans. After the US invasions it was discovered that there were no WMDs anywhere in Iraq and Saddam presented no real threat to USA. 

3. We were told that Saddam was bad man, a cruel dictator that abused his people and have total disregards for human rights. 

That was true; however, he wasn't much worse than some other dictators in that part of the world, dictators who were, and still are our allies. Although he was a brutal dictator, Saddam was not a religious man and kept under his iron fist all the Islamic fundamentalist factions. He tolerated one of the oldest and largest Christian community in the Middle-East allowing them freedom of worship. 

Now, let’s look at the results of the war:
Although there are conflicting and confusing statistics, the most reliable independent sources estimate that at least 100, 000 innocent civilians died as a result of US military intervention in Iraq. Also, over 1.3 million Christians were forced to flee Iraq, to escape religious persecution. In the chaos that resulted from Saddam removal from power, a number of terrorist and Islamic fundamentalist jihadists entered Iraq and targeted the Christian community. Now most of the Christian churches are closed and the few renaming Christians fear genocide by the hands of the people who replaced Saddam. 

During the ten-year invasion, 4493 of brave US military lost their lives. Over $1.3 trillion was spent by US alone in the Iraq war efforts. Iraq, a relatively peaceful and prosperous country before the war, descended into chaos and now is a failed state where terrorist and jihadists from around the world, including the most brutal ISIS, have setup shop. 

Was the Iraq war just? We all have to decide for ourselves.
