We are not under the law but grace. We are free to eat anything that prayerfully sanctified by prayer with thanksgiving but don"t allow yourself to be a glutten. Giving is pretty much the same: give with a thankful heart. If you want to give 10% do so. If you want to give more, praise God. We are not required to be legalistic. We are to give out of our increase, profit or return of blessings. This much I know: you can never give more than God our heavenly Father gives back. The main thing is to have a giving heart. That requires setting aside money for tips at a restaurant, buying gifts for others, flowers, cards and especially christian ministries and their works. The bible says don't let your left hand know what the right is doing. Be generous in all things, but mostly listen to the Lords small still voice. He will tell you to give. Is a practice of giving 10% good? Yes! Of course. Is it good to give when you are in great need? Yes, of course. We can all give out of our abundance of blessings. Will you always have a return on your generosity most assuredly. Yes! Yes! Amen! You can not out give God. Every thing good in life comes from our heavenly Father.

This is a "heart" issue.How can anyone ask a question like this, do you go to God when you have an extra need, a new car, money to pay an unexpected hospital bill? Why would you even question whether or not to tithe on an unexpected windfall? It's no different when someone asks if they should tithe on gross or net income. My former pastor asked the congregation if they wanted to be blessed "on the net or on the gross?" God doesn't need our money, we need to give our money to God, as a sacrifice, as praise, as trust.

Yes, we are expected (though not by compulsion) to pay a tithe from tax refunds, gratuities, commissions, etc. Actually, Proverbs 3:9 simply answers all these questions about percentages, categories from which to pay, etc;..... all your tithes. One wonders why Christians who could not even pass Maths in GED suddenly all become mathematicians when tithes and giving in church is being addressed. Remember, we cannot serve God and mammon together! Tithes and offerings as with all giving is unto The Lord. It is an indication of surrender to Divine Ownership by God and it is a true reflection of the heart. Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matt 6:21); where is your heart, with God or with mammon? Whenever we are called upon or encouraged to give, it is very important to always remember to note that “If you start thinking to yourselves, “I did all this. And all by myself. I’m rich. It’s all mine!”—well, think again. Remember that GOD, your God, gave you the strength to produce all this wealth so as to confirm the covenant that he promised to your ancestors—as it is today.” (Deuteronomy 8:17-18 MSG). And actually, the silver is His and the gold also! (Hag 2:8)
