As Christians, we must 'fight the good fight", choose our battles, and do our very best, as heaven gave its best for us.

However, there are some fights we can't fight, so we must place those at the throne, and let God deal with those matters.

We are not to be complacent, and let things happen, especially if we know we can stop things from happening that are evil, or make a change for good.

In either circumstance, we are to "pray for wisdom, if we lack", and in time God will give us what we seek, if we ask in faith, concerning wisdom that is, and ask for the right reasons.

In a recent sermon, our pastor preached on the Sermon on the Mount. In it, Jesus spoke of the wide and narrow gate Mat 7:13-14. Our pastor explained that the wide gate is wide enough that you can walk through while carrying your stuff (sin, regrets, past hopes and dreams, etc). Lots of people try to enter heaven while carrying their stuff. 

On the other hand, the narrow gate is only wide enough for one person without carrying anything. If we try to enter heaven without letting go of our sin, we won't fit through the gate. The wide gate leads to destruction. The narrow gate is to life. 

I look at that phrase in light of this. If we don't "let go" of our sin and "let God " have control, our lives will end in destruction. I know people look at the phrase add a reason to coast through life, but it takes active participation on our part through the power of the Holy Spirit to be able to "let go."

Dare I suggest that the reference in Psalm 46:10 Amplified version says, “Let be, be still and know that I am God” is nominating a letting go of those things that are inappropriate such as resentment, unforgiveness, etc. We often are like a dog with a bone, and if we don’t “let go” then we forfeit our priceless gift of salvation. It does not suggest a lack of inertia but an active pursuit of an intense relationship with the Lord, impossible unless we “let go” of our preferences and pride.

There are many situation in life that we have no control over. To let go and let God is this. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not to your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths. 

Letting go and letting God is trusting in God for the outcome of a bad situation.

When I had a sudden death cardiac arrest 9 years ago, I was completely dependent on God. While waiting for open heart surgery for three days in the hospital to replace a bad heart valve I had since birth, all I could do is let go and let God. 

As such I had the greatest peace I have ever had in my life. My fate was totally in Gods hands. And it was great. I knew that If I did not made it through the operation that I would be present with the Lord. 

So letting go and letting God is the same as trusting in the Lord for the outcome He wants. Not the outcome we want. 

I came through that operation and have not even needed to take any medication for my heart. 

I told the Lord before I went into surgery that I was content with either way. I was ready to go to be with him or stay here. 

I did not want my wife to live without my help. That made me sad. I love her so much as she has always been supportive of everything I have ever wanted to do. 

But still, It was totally up to the Lord. It was His decision. I had no say so in the matter. You can not imagine the freedom that gives. It is really the way we should live all the time, but until you face death, you can not know what it is like. 

So, I had to let go and let God.

Paul said, no matter what state I am in to be content. That agrees with Hebrews 13:5 And be content with such things as ye have, for He hath said, I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU OR FORSAKE YOU. Gods word. I believe what He said. John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on Him that sent me, HATH EVELASTING LIFE, present tense, and shall not come into judgement, but is passed from death unto life. 

Eternal life is a free gift from God to all who just believe on His name John 1:12. Romans 1:16. Romans 4:5-8 We have His imputed righteousness, and He will no more impute sin to our account. He already paid our sin debt in full and we can never be condemned again. John 3:18, John 6:40 I have ever lasting life because it is based on Gods word. Not what I do or do not do.

The only people I have ever heard use the expression '"Let go and let God" were in Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics anonymous meetings. When people use this sobriety catch phrase it has a different meaning than previous answers infer. It is a biblical attitude reflected in the scriptures where it says "Be still and know that I am God." 

In the aforementioned meetings they often quote what is often called the serenity prayer: "God grant us the serenity to accept the things we can't change, the courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference." "Let go and let God" helps us do that first part, accepting the things we cannot change. Let go and let God reminds us of who is in charge so we don't have to get bent out of shape when things don't go our way. "Let go and let God" is a way for me to relinquish control to the one who can lead my life far better than I ever could. 

To me it also means I must become less so that Jesus can be more.
