To answer the question directly (for the question is not whether we should honour our mothers generally, but specifically, Mother's Day), I believe Christians should not celebrate it. The pagan origins of this celebration are common knowledge. Including pagan festivities like Easter, Halloween, New Year, (I regret to say) Christmas, birthdays etc None of these can be traced to the bible, or the practices of the children of God. These are all adopted and adapted. So many centuries down the line, they feel so innocent and 'christian'. But the source of that pool is heathen. Noone disputes that. Noone disputes that the bible contains no such celebrations either (for birthdays, we mustn't mix the celebration for a new born baby, which is biblical, and the celebration of the anniversary yearly). Now, to the matter at hand: Deuteronomy 12:30-31 NIV. 30. "And after they have been destroyed before you, be careful not to be ensnared by inquiring about their gods, saying, "How do these nations serve their gods? We will do the same." 31. You must not worship YHWH your God in their way,..." Deuteronomy 18:9 NIV. "When you enter the land YHWH your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there." God 'groomed' Abraham, by isolating him from the Chaldean culture, and taught him, among strangers, what He wanted from a chosen race (which now encompasses all nations. Genesis 12:3), so that Abraham would teach his children after him (Genesis 18:19). You are now Abraham's seed (Galatians 3:29). There it is! We don't 'adapt' pagan practices so that we can honour God. He has said NO! Our consciences are not a reference point for what is right and what is wrong, rather the bible is. 1 Corinthians 4:4 NIV. "My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent" We must learn to trust in God's Word, not our viewpoints. With time coming to a close, the human moral standard continues on the path of depravation. What used to be unacceptable fifteen, thirty, years ago, may now seem very kosher. Only Scripture is the reliable standard, and against it all behavior shall be tested. "As for me and my household......" Bless.

Mothers Day in the UK is actually known as Mothering Sunday, but generally the same as everywhere else, Mother's Day. I have never heard it called Mothering Day! (I'm a Brit!) Yes, it's good to have a special day for mums but everyday of our lives we should be living in a way which glorifies God, and that includes honouring our parents 365 days a year.
