Is public confession necessary for salvation?

Jesus said, "Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: But he that denies me before men shall be denied before the angels of God." Luke 12:8,9.

These are ominous words, words that accompany salvation. As
He said this just after stating, That we should fear God rather than man, since man can't cast you into hell, only God can. 

This is what Paul had in mind when he wrote Romans 10: 10, "...with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." As the public expression of ones faith, shows or reveals ones true heart and brings glory to God. There is an 'inward', believing with the heart, but there is an accompanying 'outward' confessing with the mouth. 

Since Jesus himself confessed a good confession before Pontius Pilate, and is the Apostle and High Priest of our profession (confession) So should we confess, "unto salvation".

It is not a cause, for Christ alone is the author of eternal salvation. But is an intrical and important part and is to be held fast without wavering until we receive the end of our faith, even the salvation of our souls.

Its interesting that the very next verse (Romans 10:11) say's that those that believe will not be ashamed, which comes with a warning; 
Luke 9:26, "For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels."

So, is it necessary? I for one would not be caught dead without it!

I personally believe that public confession is necessary and I will explain why. To be a part of any organization, auxiliary, cult or gang… confession along with obvious loyalty must be stated. Now you do not have to walk around with a sign on your back stating that I am a Christian every day, unless the Lord called you to that order. However we are a part of an Organization, we believe in one God, one Faith and one Baptism with a myriad of members. We stand firm and united in the fact Jesus is the Christ the Messiah, the Son of the living God. And the initiation in becoming a part of this group, organization or clan is Jesus and his Father coming in and making their abode in us.

To add to this I would like to say how the lost would be saved if confession is not made public. A lady on my job 30 years ago preach to me Jesus with her life style and then vocalized it later. And I have been madly in love with the Lord Jesus ever since. I was what you call a street woman, no I wasn’t a prostitute, but I was fast woman and this lady lived Jesus in front of me to a point that I made an inquiry as to what Organization, church, cult or gang she belonged to because I wanted to be a part. Trust me I would have done whatever it took to be part. Whatever she had inside and stood for I had to have it. It was long after her confession to me that I accepted Jesus as my personal savior

In Mathew 12v37 the bible teaches us of the power behind words! The confession that Romans 10v9 is talking about, is a confession that comes with deep conviction of who Jesus is! That conviction leads to acceptance of what the bible says about Jesus, thereby bringing a relationship between God and the one involved in the confession.

What is of uttermost importance is the heart behind the confession, -convicted heart! It can either be done before people or even when one is alone, depending on when the heart feels convicted. What matters is to whom it is said to, in this case its God!
