The thorns and thistles were added to humanity when Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden (Genesis 3:18).

The exact explanation of thorns and thistles was given by our Lord Jesus Christ in the Parable of the kingdom in Matthew 13:7 where The Lord said some seeds fell among the thorns and then in Matthew 13:22 He says these refers to deceitfulness of the riches (A type of serving the world rather than God). And in Mark 4:18&19 The Lord says these represent “ cares and deceitfulness of the riches and lusts for other things.......”. Cares in other words refer or represent the worries and anxieties of this life.

Thus the thorns and thistles put together represent the cares or anxieties of this life that would take us away from the Lord and tend to make us unfruitful spiritually.

But our Lord Jesus Christ as the “ Last Adam “ (1 Corinthians 15:45) came to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8) which He did on the cross. He spoiled principalities and power on the cross (Colossians 2:15). 

Thus by accepting to wear the crown of thorns He has “ JUDICIALLY “ taken all our worries and anxieties on the Cross. He has given us His victory over the worries and anxieties and from the power of the world to hinder our Spiritual growth (John 16:33). He is now able to take our load of worries (thorns and thistles) and invites us to do that by faith (Philippians 4&6) and Peter says we can cast all our cares upon Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).

But now in this life we will not experience full deliverance from worries “ IDEALLY “ because of our fight with the sin nature that dwells in us, because of the pull of the world and because of our fight with the principalities and powers. But positionally we can maintain our fellowship by a life of confession and cleansing power of the Blood of Lord Jesus Christ (1 John 1:7-10).

But it will an “ IDEAL “ reality (or experience) in the New Creation (Revelation 21:4& 22:3).

Thus as “ THE MAN OF SORROWS “(Isaiah 53:3) on the Cross Christ had to symbolically wear the Crown of Thorns “ to take away our sorrows for ever. His cry from the Cross “ It is finished “ (John 19:30) was an all inclusive reversal of the sin and death of “ First Adam “ and total redemption of the creation that open the way for the new heaven and the new earth and God could say “ Behold I make ALL things New “(Revelation 21:5).

Though it would be a little out of context the nails that were driven on the hand and feet of Lord Jesus Christ were symbolising that Christ was nullifying the effects of law and ordinances that were against us (Colossians 2:14).
