The difficulty in waiting can also be seen as part of our selfish sin nature. Instead of trusting God, Adam and Eve decided their way was better. At times we think our timing is better than His so we struggle when things don't go like we think they should. It's the age old struggle for control... and God always wins. Even when we think we win it's because He let's us win!

Waiting on God, trusting and obeying Him go together. All through the Bible we read of people who had to wait on God. Job, David, Abraham, Samuel, etc. And the results were always the same. Waiting with obedience = good results; Not waiting and disobedient = bad results, and sometimes those results last a really long time. A good example of this was Saul. Samuel had told him to wait for him seven days (1 Samuel 13:8) and when Saul didn’t see him coming, he took matters into his own hands, which resulted in him losing the kingdom. Another example is Abraham. God made him a promise, but since God did not send the promise in the time that Abraham thought would be best, both he and Sarah took matters into their own hands, and that brought bad results which are still with us today. In reading all the experiences God’s people went through, it encourages me to wait on the Lord with a cheerful heart expecting great results, whether I see the results right away or in years time. Regardless of my opinion, God hasn’t forgotten and is still working it out. It may not bring the outcome I would think is best, but His wisdom is greater than mine and so I have to trust that He worked things out for my best.

On the matter of waiting on the Lord, there are no short cuts because it's another way God helps us grow and strengthen our faith in Him. Many a time seeming struggles in the flesh are inescapable but Roman's 8:32 has always been a strong reference point for me. GOD'S LOVE REVEALED ON THE CROSS MUST ALWAYS BE OUR FOCUS. GOD CAN'T HAVE CAUSED THE CROSS TO HAPPEN, AND STILL FAIL US. Never.

Jesus, in the Garden of Gethsemane, told His disciples, "Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit is indeed willing, but the flesh is weak." It is difficult for us to wait on God because of the weakness of our flesh! Matthew 26:41 Our human nature doesn't want to wait on God, but it is for our own good, if we do so! I had to learn this lesson the hard way! God's promises are for an appointed time, and He will allow us to go through a season of waiting to test our patience and obedience. Psalm 27:14: "Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD." So don't faint in your season of waiting people of God, for in due season, you shall reap, if you faint not! Be encouraged!
