Why should David get a place for his parents to be able to inquire of the Lord since they could have been with him in the cave of Adullam?

Dear Anonymous, I don't believe King David needed to find a place for his parents in order to inquire of Yahweh. I believe it was to honor them, and because he was concerned about their wellbeing.

King David was a man of war, and had no resting place. He stayed in the stronghold according to 1 Samuel 22:4. He was a man on the run, so to speak, because King Saul was seeking to kill him.

That's why he asked the king of Moab, if his parents could remain in the land of Moab.

In chapter 16, David was anointed as king, however, he didn't reign as king until Saul was dead.

We see in 1 Samuel 23, where David began to inquire of Yahweh.

It was many years before he reigned over Judah and Jerusalem.

May I encourage you, to continue to read 1 Samuel 22, and beyond!
