Psalm 31:20 You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence From the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion From the strife of tongues. Psalms 64:2-4 English Standard Version (ESV) Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked, from the throng of evildoers, who whet their tongues like swords, who aim bitter words like arrows, shooting from ambush at the blameless, shooting at him suddenly and without fear. Psalm 140:1-3 (ESV) “Deliver me, O Lord, from evil men… who plan evil things in their heart and stir up wars continually. They make their tongue sharp as a serpent's, and under their lips is the venom of asps.”

I would say that Jesus serves as our model in such cases, as Peter noted when speaking of Him in 1 Peter 2:23, "When they hurled their insults at Him, He did not retaliate; when He suffered, He made no threats. Instead, He entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly." Also, aside from that, believers should live in such a way that any such slanders would be widely perceived as lacking credibility (even among those with whom the believers disagree).
Jesus is our model. Paul also teaches in Eph 6 that we need to use the shield of faith, which may stop the flaming arrow. And make sure to use your armor wisely in a way that will glorify God.
