Why does 1 Samuel 31:4 say Saul fell upon his sword and 2 Samuel verse 1 says a man killed Saul?
1 Samuel 31:4
ESV - 4 Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, "Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and mistreat me." But his armor-bearer would not, for he feared greatly. Therefore Saul took his own sword and fell upon it.

By my reading, Saul killed himself by falling on his sword, as indicated in 1 Samuel 31:4. The account of Saul's death in 2 Samuel 1 was a deliberate fabrication told by the Amalekite in hopes of receiving a reward from David for having killed Saul. (Despite the Amalekite's attempted ruse, David did not reward him, but instead ordered him to be put to death for "admitting" (even though falsely, and even though Saul's death benefitted David) that the Amalekite had put Israel's anointed king (Saul) to death.)
