In speaking of "religious texts" and "earlier religious writings", is the question referring to prophecies that were made in the Old Testament that were subsequently cited as having been fulfilled by events in the New Testament, or to material from other religions or cultures not encompassed in the Old Testament?

With regard to non-Biblical writings, I am reminded of Paul's speech in Athens (Acts 17:22-32), in which he spoke of earlier Greek writers and poets such as Epimenides and Eratus who had enunciated belief in the fatherhood of God, and the signs given by God that all humans could detect.
