What is the significance of the man with the withered hand?
Esp. Matthew 12:9-12
Matthew 12:9 - 14
NKJV - 9 Now when He had departed from there, He went into their synagogue. 10 And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?" - that they might accuse Him.

The religion of this time had an overwhelming number of rules. In Matthew 12:1-7 the Pharisees were furious about the hungry disciples picking corn on the Sabbath. This was work! This was not permitted. In Matthew 8:16, 17, 20-22, we read about Jesus performing cures. This was to fulfill the words of Isaiah that said, " He himself bore our sicknesses away and carried our diseases." Jesus was under the law and had come to fulfill it, not to destroy it. But the Pharisees considered Him a threat to their authority! In Matthew 15:1,3 the Pharisees and Scribes challenge Jesus again. Jesus responds, that their traditions have made God ineffective! In verses 8 hand 9 of this same chapter, Jesus calls them hypocrites! All they offer is lip service, not true service. To honor God, you must act out of love. Your motive is why you act. Loving service is greater than ritual tradition!

Jesus argued that if a farmer could care for his animals on the Sabbath, shouldn’t we care for man, made in the image of God? --Warren Wiersbe People’s needs surpass ritual observances. --Faithlife Study Bible A radio talk show host asked a woman if she saw both her beloved dog and a stranger drowning in a lake and she could only save one of the two, who would she save. And the woman basically said her dog - she hemmed and hawed about saying that straightforwardly, but basically she said her dog was her family...
