Why did Isaac make the same mistake as his father (Genesis 26:7)?

7 When the men of the place asked him about his wife, he said, "She is my sister," for he feared to say, "My wife," thinking, "lest the men of the place should kill me because of Rebekah," because she was attractive in appearance.

Genesis 26:6 - 35

ESV - 6 So Isaac settled in Gerar. 7 When the men of the place asked him about his wife, he said, "She is my sister," for he feared to say, "My wife," thinking, "lest the men of the place should kill me because of Rebekah," because she was attractive in appearance.

The man Isaac was human, just like you or me. He acted out of fear when he should have acted out of FAITH!

It was probably learned behavior. Sinful tendencies are learned just as wholesome tendencies are. God directed Isaac not to go down to Egypt and then promised blessing. Isaac was weak in that he failed to trust God's promises. God repeats His promises of land, seed, and blessing (i.e. the Abrahamic Covenant). Ge 26:1-5. Yes, it was a lack of faith here. Ge 26:7. And it happened that his deceit was detected in Gen 26:8. "In spite of this, God continues to bless Isaac." --Harold Wilmington

And God blesses us, too, in spite of ourselves, and our shortcomings! Praise His glorious name!
