I am not a Roman Catholic, but my understanding is that the specific wording cited in the question was promulgated in 2016 by Pope Francis and the American Catholic bishops as part of the New American Bible (Revised Edition) (NABRE) to replace the more traditional petition in the Lord's Prayer commonly worded as, "Lead us not into temptation." This was to correct any impression of God as playing an active role in people being tempted. The emphasis of the new wording is on the test of our faith that temptation poses, rather than on the temptation itself -- especially the final test of remaining in the faith through our entire earthly pilgrimage.
