Col 1:13 KJV
"Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:"

Before a believer sees 'the light' (truth), which is Jesus Christ, they are trapped in the darkness of 'the lie'. Darkness is the reigning 'power' prior to one discovering God's truth. The power of light (truth) always prevails over the power of darkness (the lie). Light extinguishes darkness. You can bring a candle into a dark room and then see, but you cannot bring darkness into a lit room and overtake the visible truth of the light. The lie no longer has power once the truth is exposed.

Satan uses the power of darkness (the lie) to keep souls lost from God. The last thing he wants is for us to see God's beacon of light which leads us out of the darkness and to the truth of God's love. God's gift of eternal security from death and darkness is found through the shed blood of The Light, Jesus Christ, who died for all (1 Cor 15:1-4).

2 Cor 4:3-7
"But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us."
