I interpret an "office" as being a duty, charge, or trust of a sacred nature, conferred by God; such as the office of priest in the Old Testament; or positions such as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers in the New Testament (as listed in Ephesians 4:11-16), for which God Himself (through the conferring of individual "gifts" by the Holy Spirit, such as enumerated in Corinthians 12:8-10 (teaching words of wisdom; teaching what one has learned and knows; faith; healing; powerful works; speaking God's word; distinguishing of spirits; speaking in tongues; and interpreting tongues)) fits individuals to perform the duties of those specific offices.
