Was there power in Jesus' physical blood?

Hebrews 13:12

ESV - 12 So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood.

It's not Jesus' physical blood that has power, to such an extent that the church today says that they are sprinkling Jesus' blood on every aspect of their life. In Bible times they understood that blood is a symbolic of life, because the life of the flesh is in the blood, just like in the following verse:

Leviticus 17:11:
[11]For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

So when we say there is power in the blood of Jesus we mean there is power in the life he gave us in his death, burial and resurrection, not the red liquid that oozed out of him.

The power of Jesus' blood was that Jesus was sinless, not that it had any sort of mystical qualities. 1 Cor. 11:25 states that his blood was what enacted the new covenant; Eph. 2:13 says that his blood brought us near to God; Heb. 2:14 shows that his blood destroyed the devil. Of course, this doesn’t mean the devil is no longer active, but that he is doomed. As the perfect sacrifice (Heb. 10:19), Jesus’ blood accomplished all this.

I'm a hymn guy myself so I am going to draw in a hymn when answering this question. When Hebrews 13:12 says Jesus sanctified the people “through His own blood,” it is not teaching that there is mystical power in the physical liquid itself. In Scripture, “blood” means life poured out in sacrificial death (Leviticus 17:11). The power is in what His shed blood represents, His sinless life willingly given on the cross as the once-for-all atonement for our sins. That is why the old hymn "O How I Love Jesus" says, “it tells me of His precious blood, the sinner’s perfect plea.”

Before a holy God, I have no argument of my own, no works, no merit. My only plea is that Jesus died for me, His life poured out to set me free. As 1 Peter 1:18-19 says, I was ransomed not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. That is “precious” because it is perfect. Hebrews 10:14 says, “by a single offering He has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.” His blood is the sinner’s perfect plea because His sacrifice is the only one God fully accepts, and it is enough.
