What does it mean when God says, "for My Name's sake"?
Psalms 23:3
NKJV - 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake.

Psalm 23 states the Lord is my shepherd. The next few lines indicate everything that He does, because He is my shepherd. Everything He does is out of love for His sheep. He is righteous. His loving actions are proof of His love for His sheep. This is the validation. He is The Lord, the Shepherd of His People. The whole Psalm overflows with His goodness. It is also the proof of His love for God the Father. Seeing Jesus, we see Our Father's heart.

In my opinion, when David describes God as leading him in the paths of righteousness "for His name's sake", he is referring to God doing so in order that His name or reputation will be glorified -- not only by David in thanksgiving for his own success, but also among others who will attribute that success to God's active involvement in achieving it because of David's devotion.
