What does it mean to give glory to God whether you eat or drink (1 Corinthians 10:31)?

I interpret Paul to be saying that Christians have no constraints on their dietary intake (such as were contained in the Mosaic Law), as Jesus had indicated in passages such as Mark 7:14-23. However, when eating in the company of non-Christians whom they were trying to convert, and who informed the Christians that the food that was being eaten had been offered to the pagan idols that the non-Christians worshipped, Christians needed to be aware of ways in which their conduct might inadvertently offend those non-Christians, and thus detract from their evangelistic efforts, which would run counter to what should be the primary goal of Christians in whatever they do -- glorifying God.
