What does it mean in Luke 18:8, “When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”?

Does that mean that when God comes no one (not even 1) will be faithful or is this because of the predicted great falling away?

Luke 18:8

NKJV - 8 "I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?"

In my opinion, during His earthly incarnation, Jesus did not have knowledge of the exact timing of His return at the close of the age. To me, His question reflects the possibility that His return might be so long delayed that people could have given up any hope of its occurrence.

Luke 18:8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

“Avenging (vindicatI got) them speedily” by God the Father is rescuing one from their opponents and executing justice to them, but how long can one stand like “Job” with patience from his opponent, knowing God will avenge his own elect? (Job 19:2,25-26) Everyone goes through an adversary in life, but does everyone know how to confront their adversary? Jesus said to love your enemies, do well to them which hate you, bless them that curse you, and pray for them who despitefully use you. (Luke 6:27-28)

“If one tends to lose hope and trust God, for then shall the days come,” saith the Lord God, “that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord. (Amos 8:11) Which will lead the one to be a stony ground whose heart is hardened and then, when the sun goes up, will be scorched having no root and go through tribulation and persecution. (Mat 13:5-6,21)

Going through pain and suffering will lead one to lose faith, for everyone hates suffering; but the fact is, pain changes people. It’s not meant to make us weak, it’s to make us stronger through a process that we don’t know. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow down and worship the idol King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. Their refusal was the result of their allegiance to God, being thrown in the furnace to be executed, the King was amazed to see four men walking in the fire unbound and unharmed, and the form of the fourth was like the Son of God with them. (Daniel 3:25)

Amos 5:18: Woe unto you that desire the day of the Lord! To what end is it for you? The day of the Lord is darkness, and not light. 20 Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light? Even very dark, and no brightness in it?

It's a direct question to each believer: "What thinkest _thou_?"

"Do _you_ think _He_ will find faith when He comes?"

And please, take the word "faith" in the way He meant it, not--as we are so prone to do in this age--redefining it to something we'd prefer so as to still be able to answer in the affirmative.

Each believer _must_ answer, "Lord, I do not know, but _I_ promise _You_ that _I_ will do my best to remain faithful, if _You_ continue to help."

It is an invitation to "look to thyself."
