Why eat a scroll? Revelation 10:9

 9 So I went to the angel and told him to give me the little scroll. And he said to me, "Take and eat it; it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey."

Eating this scroll pictured the reception and assimilation of the scroll's message. The message is sweet because it comes from God who is sweet: sweeter far than tongue or pen can ever tell is the Love of God; it goes beyond the highest star, and reaches to the lowest hell.

So it's sweet because it originates in God, and it is bitter because it proclaims harsh judgments.

Well, If I hear God give me a specific direction, I will do it.

Revelation 4:1: "After this I looked, and behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were, of a trumpet talking with me; which said, come up here and I will show you things which must happen."

John was given a vision. This scroll was a message from God, that had to be understood. 

In Ezekiel 3:3 we read of a similar situation. 

Psalm 19:9: "The fear of the Lord is pure and enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are reliable and altogether righteous."

Sometimes we find the words from God are hard to swallow. That does not make them wrong. To us they are bitter.

Jeremiah 15:16: "Your words were found and I ate them."

We must hunger for God and accept the truth that He reveals.
