I believe we have to guide us a principle of scripture, and that of course is not to kill. The taking of a baby’s life is akin to murder, I believe. 

Jesus said in John 10:10, "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” There are those who want to steal away a precious life, to kill a precious life, to destroy a precious life. Oh let the babies live! That they may have that opportunity for an abundant life.

Almighty God in Deuteronomy 30:19 says, "I call heaven and earth as witnessses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”

De. 5:17: Thou shalt not kill.

Is the pre-born baby a person? If so, then God says not to kill him or her. Luke 1:41: And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:...44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. 

If the baby "leaped for joy", then it was apparently conscious, and therefore a person. That is what the scripture says. 

If you want to go the "scientific" route, the unborn baby has DNA separate from its mother. If the mother is human and the father is human, then the baby is human, either before being born or after being born.

There are numerous other "scientific" details that should be fairly easy to find that indicate the baby is a person, either before or after being born, if that is of particular concern.

Good question, Teresa! One of my cousins works fervently full-time with a pro-life organization, and he is the same age as I am. My sister asked me to join up with him. I haven't yet, but I'd like to quote a Christian lady who had an abortion: 

"In the Mosaic Law, the punishment for accidentally killing an unborn child was the death penalty. “If people are fighting and hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely, the offender must be fined... But if there is a serious injury, you are to take life for life” (Exodus 21:22-23)."
[This is a passage of Scripture that we had to study at Dallas Theological Seminary in the 1970s while i was there].

“There are Consequences for Abortion and Ending the Life of an Unborn Child

The penalty for going against God’s will, or sinning, is death. As scripture proves, God values all life, and to go against His will results in consequences. The penalty for sin is death, not necessarily physical death, but spiritual death. After an abortion, most people suffer painful consequences such as regret and depression, and often men and women turn to addiction to cope. But there is hope. 

God Offers Forgiveness and Restoration from Abortion

Speaking from experience, after an abortion, it’s hard to imagine that God can forgive. Shame and regret cloud the view of the path toward God’s amazing grace. The only way to see clearly is forgiveness.

God promises to forgive if we confess. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). This passage says “all unrighteousness.” Every sin. All of them. But first, we must confess.”
