Rev 3:20: Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

As a child of God being redeemed by the blood of Jesus, we must be very careful to discern what voices we hear, for the enemy is clever and extremely subtle in planting many voices into our lives. Having begun in the Spirit and trying to make ourselves perfect in the fleshy thoughts, (Gal 3:3) then a time will come (2 Tim 3:2) when you shall not endure a sound doctrine but after your own lust shall you heap with itching ears (2 Tim 4:3) for the enemy will plant many voices into your lives.

When one opens the door to His voice, in wisdom shall he sup with Him His Word for then he will increase in learning and obtain guidance. (Pro 1:5) For then what measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still, more will be added to you. (Mark 4:24) For the one who guards his ear gates will be His sheep who hear His voice, and He will know us and will follow Him (John 10:7) for then you will be the one swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath. (James 1:19)

Psalm 116:1-2: I LOVE the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplication. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.

I can't cite the source of the quote in the question, but our senses -- and especially our eyes (sight) and ears (hearing) -- are the means by which we receive information from the world around us. In many respects, the reception of that information is voluntary and within our power of choice.

That being the case, it is the responsibility of the followers of Christ to assure to the greatest extent possible that such information -- especially information that we choose to act or dwell upon -- conforms to the guidelines for human conduct that God has specified in His word (the Bible), and that information that seeks to influence us to act counter to those guidelines is rejected, removed from our thoughts, and/or acted against as quickly or deliberately as possible.

Shalom! Our Scripture study teacher just spoke on this topic last night! She quoted brother Messer who said, "What we hear, we will repeat." She explained how she understood that quote by saying, "We may not repeat it out loud, but we will most likely repeat it to ourselves. And if what we hear is unhealthy, repeated oftened, brings about unhealthy results to others and ourselves."
