Excellent question, Terri! I wondered the same myself in my early Christian years. I have learned since that the command of Ephesians 5:18 is given to all believers to be filled, directed and empowered by the Holy Spirit, continually, every day of our lives.

AMP:
Do not get drunk with wine, for that is wickedness (corruption, stupidity), but be filled with the [Holy] Spirit and constantly guided by Him.
AMPC:
And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit.
CJB:
Don’t get drunk with wine, because it makes you lose control. Instead, keep on being filled with the Spirit —
ISV:
Stop getting drunk with wine, which leads to wild living, but keep on being filled with the Spirit.

πληροῦσθε is Greek for "be filled".
V-PMM/P-2P This means it's a verb, a present middle or passive imperative, 2nd person plural. Since it's PRESENT tense, it means CONTINUAL ACTION.
