Is having more time in prayer the only exception to abstaining from sex in marriage?

"Do not deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer. Afterward, you should come together again so that Satan won’t be able to tempt you because of your lack of self-control." (1 Cor. 7:5)

What if one of the marriage partners has a severe itching problem from being exposed to water? This mostly prevents washing before sexual relations. What if the spouse thinks she/he is too old for sex, or that they are both too old for sex?

1 Corinthians 7:1 - 16

ESV - 1 Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: "It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman. 2 But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.

In 1 Corinthians 1:1, we see the reason for this 7th chapter. The congregation in Corinth was having problems. Their problems concerned division in the church. Two doctrines, asceticism, and libertertinism were the cause of the schism.

Marriage is a sacrament of love. You give yourselves to each other. Each one is to love, honor, and protect the other.

The union is not only physical, but also psychological. Courtship, love, marriage can be a long and winding road. It can be joyous and exhausting! Life is difficult.

Marriage is so intimate a union that any default of love is at once unnatural and impious.

Love your partner as you love yourself. There isn't any room for selfishness.

The Song of Solomon is a love story. A mystical love story of desire, patience, expectation. Marriage if done properly is all of these things.

Genesis 2:23,24 flesh of my flesh, bone of my bones - one flesh, that's marriage.
