ESV - 1 Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John 2 (although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples).

To my knowledge, the only source for the woman's name -- which is not mentioned in John's gospel -- is in Eastern Christian tradition, where her baptismal name (rather than her name at birth) is rendered as Photine or Photini, which is translated as "Enlightened One", in recognition of her acknowledgement of Jesus as the Messiah, and of her efforts in bringing many others (including her own sisters) to Christ. Tradition also says that she later traveled to Carthage in northern Africa as a missionary, and was ultimately martyred (having outlived both Paul and Peter) by being thrown down from the top of a wall during the reign of the Roman emperor Nero. The Episcopal Church in the United States also commemorates her with a lesser feast on February 26.
