We all have free will to turn away even after being born again. I don't believe "once saved, always saved" is biblical.

Hebrews 10:26 "For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for our sins." (Continue reading 27-30):

2 Peter 2:20 " For if, after they have escaped the pollution of the world through the knowledge of Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning." Ezekiel 18:24

The word apostasy means departure. To depart from something means you once had something to depart from.

Second Timothy 2:13. If we believe not, (after we have once believed) He abideth faithful. He can not deny himself.

Ephesians 1:13-14 In whom ye also trusted, after ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom also after ye believed were sealed by that Holy Spirit of promise. Our guarantee of eternal life.

John 10:28-29 And I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Apostasy infers untruthful beliefs. When I first came to Christ 44 years ago I was green in some of my early beliefs such as salvation through works, beliefs in theistic evolution, beliefs that all religions lead to salvation etc. In time God reveals truths from His holy word and one shys away from these initial wrong beliefs. It is all part of God’s way of sanctifying us. Our core beliefs of salvation through Christ alone and the deity of Christ must never be compromised.
