A Christian should have an appreciation of the book of Leviticus because it details the roles and functions of the Jewish priesthood (the members of the tribe of Levi) as an intermediary between the Israelites and God, including their actions in the process of making sacrificial offerings for the forgiveness of sin. 

This is a foreshadowing of the functions subsequently performed and fulfilled by Jesus, who was both the Great High Priest, and also the ultimate sacrifice for the forgiveness of sin -- not just for Israel, but for all of humanity.

The extensive ceremonial regulations in Leviticus regarding dealing with ritual uncleanness or the treatment of skin diseases should also give Christians an appreciation of the great burden removed from them by Christ with respect to such detailed requirements. (The superiority of Christ over such prior rituals is a main theme of the book of Hebrews in the New Testament.)

Moses was the recipient of the book of Leviticus. See 1:1 And 4:1. Exodus 24:4; 34:28, Mark 10:4-5; Mark 12:19; John 1:45 and 5:46 tell us that Moses is said to have written down the revelation that He received.

The author of Leviticus had to be a person who knew about the events described in the book. Moses knew the Sinai personally. 

This book is really the continuation of the story from Exodus 19:1 until Numbers 10:11. 

To skip this book is to leave out the middle of the story.

Leo the Great said, "The Lord himself says,'Be holy, for I am holy', that is to say, ‘Choose me and keep away from what displeases me. Do what I love and love what I do....let me be your food and drink. None desire in vain what is mine, for those who stretch out toward me seek me because I first sought them.’”

As scripture, it is for our learning.
