How do you protect yourself from the enemy?

1 Peter 5:8

ESV - 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Great question, Fiona Anne!

Satan roars like a lion to frighten his prey (1 Peter 5:8 -- AMPC):
"Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour."

But the Lion of Judah roars to announce victory (see Ps. 95:3-5; Isa. 40:12-17):

"...15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing."

16 "And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering."

17 "All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity." --Be Victorious - Page 87, Warren W. Wiersbe

We need to respect Satan and his power, recognize him as the great pretender: John 8:44--“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 --13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works."

And finally, we need to resist him: 1 Peter 5:9 --"Resist him, standing firm in your faith and remember that the strain is the same for all your fellow-Christians in other parts of the world." --J.B. Philipps New Testament --Wiersbe (https://bethelchurchmuncie.files.wordpress.com/2020/07/wiersbe-commentary-new-testament.pdf)
