Who were the Magi?

Matthew 2:11

NKJV - 11 And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Great question, John Hull!

Old Testament verses that foretell of the [3?] visitors are these: Isaiah 60:6:..."The wealth of the nations will come to you. A multitude of camels will cover you. The young camels of Midian and Ephah; All those from Sheba will come; They will bring gold and frankincense, and will bear good news of the praises of the Lord." New American Standard Bible, and two selections from the Psalms- Psalm 72:10: "The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall pay tribute, and the kings of Arabia and Saba offer gifts" and Psalm 72:15: "...and may there be given to him gold from Arabia", New American Standard Bible. –Wikipedia/We Three Kings

Magi, according to the Nave’s Topical Bible, are the wise men who visited Jesus, Matt. 2:1-12.
The word translated “wise men” (magi—Greek = μάγοι) refers to a group of scholars who studied the stars. Their title connects them with magic, but they were probably more like astrologers. However, their presence in the biblical record is not a divine endorsement of astrology. Thank God, one of my closest relatives was into this way too heavily!

Wise men still seek Him!

Seek with the wise men! Seek, and ye shall find—
Seeking all the world He came, Savior of mankind!
Wise men are seekers, they the truly wise—
See! The Sought for ages before you lies! -- Burton H. Winslow, 1903.
