All gifts from God can be considered spiritual. As you have read the above authors description you will have found various types of gifts and various definitions. On thing most important about the gifts are do they Edify, Exhort, and Comfort. The gifts of God are for a purpose like this. The gift of discerning of spirits is not for someone to walk up and say "I discern you have this sin problem in your life" for example. A. Tongues- It is a supernatural utterance in an unknown tongue. The speaker is unctioned by the Holy Spirit to speak in a language never learned by the speaker, nor understood by his mind but not necessarily so with the hearer. B. Interpretation of Tongues- Is the supernatural showing forth by the spirit of the meaning of an utterance in other tongues. C. Prophecy- Is a supernatural utterance in a known language They do something- Faith Miracles Healings 1 The gift of Faith (Special Faith) A Enables one to receive a miracle. Working of miracles is active (do it) Gift of faith is passive it receives (both produce miracles) B It is not saving faith. Eph 2:8 C It is not a fruit of the Spirit D It is not general faith Mark 11:24 E Those operating the Gift of Faith believe God in such a way that He honors their word as His own and miraculously brings it to pass. F Sustained miracles are produced by the Gift of Faith G Can be used for personal protection Dan 6:16-17 19-23 Mark 4:38-40 Gift of working of miracles Definition- A miracle is a supernatural intervention in the ordinary course of nature, a temporary suspension of the accustomed order through the Holy Spirit 1. Not a miracle figuratively speaking 2. Everyone of the gifts of the HS is miraculous 3. Many healings are miraculous but are not the working of miracles Examples Jesus turns water into wine instantly John 2:1-11 Moses and the 10 plagues Opening of the Red Sea Miracle- but gift of faith to keep it open Gifts of Healings 1. Because all 9 gifts are supernatural- this gift would not include healing by medicine, doctors, pills or any natural means 2. Jesus was anointed and healed all Acts 10:38 3. Difference between believers anointing and gifts of healings. A. Recovery process; Mark 16:18 B. Immediately- Luke 5:12-13 C. No faith required to receive gifts of healings for your illness, but ordinary faith is required to keep you healing A Word of Knowledge Supernatural revelation by the Holy Spirit of certain facts in the mind of God 1. Not natural or learned knowledge 2. It has revelation concerning people, places or things 3. Its time period is past or present but not future A Word of Wisdom A supernatural revelation by the Holy Spirit of God concerning the divine purpose in the mind of God and the will of God 1. Always future tense 2. Not great wisdom to present the word 3. Not great wisdom in counseling 4. Not the gift of wisdom 5. Vehicles used to bring this gift forth are vocal gifts, visions and dreams Discerning of Spirits The gift of Discerning of Spirits gives insight into the spirit world 1. It’s not judging human spirits 2. Not discerning of devils or evil spirits only 3. All spirits should been seen good and bad Purpose is to reveal the source of supernatural manifestations, what kind of spirit lies behind a supernatural manifestation, whether it is good or bad. There are 2 lists of the gifts of the Holy Spirit: one listed in Isaiah, another listed in 1 Corintians. The first list of 7 gifts are for strengthening of each individual Christian (Isaiah 11:2) and the second list of 9 gifts are charismatic gifts for the upbuilding of the Church. (1 Corinthians 12:8-10) Isaiah lists 7: 1. Wisdom 2. Understanding 3. Counsel 4. Fortitude 5. Knowledge 6. Piety 7. Fear of the Lord Paul in 1 Corinthians 12 lists: 1. Word of Wisdom 2. Word of Knowledge 3. Faith 4. Gifts of Healing 5. Working of Miracles 6. Prophecy 7. Discerning of Spirits 8. Various kinds of Tongues 9. Interpretation of (different) Tongues Of the 9 charismatic gifts: 1. The first 2 are teaching gifts - special inspirations by which God works through one person to give understanding to another person or group of people. 2. The next 3 are signs gifts - gifts that manifest the power of God in the world in a particularly striking way. 3. The last 4 are revelational gifts - gifts by which God makes known something about the present situation to his people.

In the New Testament doron, "a present," "gift" (from didomi, "to give"), is translated "gift" (Mt 2:11; 5:23,14 bis; Mk 7:11 the King James Version; Heb 5:1; Rev 11:10, etc., referring chiefly to gifts or offerings to God); dorea, "a free gift" (Jn 4:10; Acts 2:38; Rom 5:15,17; 2 Cor 9:15; Heb 6:4, etc., referring to the gifts of God); dorema, "a free gift" (Rom 5:16; Jas 1:17, the English Revised Version "boon"); dosis, " giving" (Jas 1:17, "every good gift," the Revised Version, margin "giving"); charisma, "grace," "favor," a benefit or good conferred, is also used of Divine gifts and favors, especially of the supernatural gifts imparted by the Holy Spirit (charismata) enumerated in Rom 12; 1 Cor 12. Easy to remember Spiritual gifts are gifts given by Jesus to His church. Spiritual gifts are discussed in 1 Cor. 12-14 and Rom. 12. They vary in degree and nature. There are some that are obviously supernatural in the usage: speaking in tongues, discerning of spirits, healing, etc. There are others that are not so supernatural: administrations, help, admonition, etc.
