Joseph certainly was a type of Christ. In fact, more similarities between Joseph and Jesus than I can either reproduce here, or could possibly have thought of myself, can be found at the following web address:

I believe it was at a Baptist church in Tomahawk,WI, or at a regular Baptist Church in Milwaukee, WI when our church was using a book on Joseph or Genesis and amazingly saw all the similarities between Joseph and Jesus. I was super impressed with this book by Butler! And I think it was alliterated, too! (I love alliteration!).

Joseph was imprisoned with 2 accused persons — the chief butler and the chief baker of Pharaoh; Christ was crucified between 2 malefactors (or 2 thieves). Both were with two others condemned to die, one of which was pardoned and given life.	Genesis 40:1-3, 20-22 Luke 23:32 --"Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him.", Luke 39-43.

Joseph’s brothers did not recognize him. Jesus’ own people didn’t either.	Genesis 42:7-8 John 1:10 --About Jesus, the PHILLIPS translation, says,
"He came into the world—the world he had created—and the world failed to recognize him. He came into his own creation, and his own people would not accept him."

Joseph was 30 years old when he started working for Pharoah. Jesus was about 30 years old when He began His ministry. Genesis 41:46 Luke 3:23 --"Jesus, when he began his ministry, was about thirty years of age, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli,"

Genesis 41:46 says, “Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt.” That is when Joseph began the main work of his life. The New Testament tells us, “And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age” when He began the main work of His life on earth (Luke 3:23 --"Jesus, when he began his ministry, was about thirty years of age, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli,").

The king of Egypt appointed Joseph to be the sole source of life for all. God appointed Jesus to be our sole source of eternal life. Genesis 41:55-57	Acts 4:12 "Only Jesus has the power to save! His name is the only one in all the world that can save anyone." (1 John 5:11-12, too)

Joseph's brothers later repented for what they did to him - Genesis 42:21--
"And they said one to another, 'We are truly guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he sought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come on us'."

"And they shall look upon me [Jesus] whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn" - Zechariah 12:10

While only Jesus was truly sinless, Joseph is one of the few people significantly written about in the Bible of which no sins are mentioned.	(silent) 1 Peter 2:22 "He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth."
