What would it mean to have their "lampstand" removed? (Revelation 2:5)

Context:

Revelation 2:4 "Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. 5 Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place."

Revelation 2:1 - 7

ESV - 1 To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: 'The words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands. 2 'I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false.

I interpret this comment as being directed not only to the pastor or the leadership of the church in Ephesus, but also to the congregation as a whole, as a warning that, if he/they did not oversee the restoration of the church's original zeal in serving Jesus that the glorified Christ had mentioned in the preceding verse, then the leaders would be removed from their positions of authority, and the congregation might even lose its status as a church, and thus no longer be a source of spiritual "light" to others.
