I would say that Christian history (from Biblical times to the present day) matters to our children (as young believers or as potential believers) in the following ways:

It shows the fulfillment of prophecy up to modern times, as well as evidence of God's involvement in world affairs, which should increase their faith in God's existence, and in His control of events.

It provides examples of individuals for them to emulate with respect to their devotion to God (even at the cost of their own welfare and lives), and the part that those individuals played in bringing others to Him and influencing positive societal changes. This will help children deal with any negative temporal consequences arising from their own living out of their faith.

At the same time that they are learning Christian history, they will also be learning that this life and world are not the whole of human existence, and to set their minds and thoughts on eternal concepts and concerns, particularly with regard to salvation through faith in Christ (both for themselves and for others).

From the standpoint of the normal academic educational process, they will also at the same time be expanding their knowledge of secular world history in general.
